Friday's Fitness Wrapup

I almost forgot to report how this week went. I haven't weighed myself, but I did put on a pair of shorts that used to be snug and they weren't, so that's always nice. I made it to the gym three times this week. I hope to make it three times next week at least. I made plans to meet a friend (Heather) to work out on Monday and I'll probably go run on the treadmill Tuesday and do yoga Wednesday and Friday. If I can make it all those days it will be great. The yoga is awesome. I'm horrible at it and it sucks while I'm doing it, but afterward I feel fantastic. I still need to do a better job with my diet, but one thing at a time right? I'll check back next week. Hopefully I would have met my fitness goal for the week and lost a pound or two.

Where's my high?

So I started running about 5 weeks ago with the help of the nifty Couch to 5K running app on my iphone (love it!) and I have yet to experience that fabled "runner's high". Instead I spend the entire time thinking "I'm going to vomit!". I'm so not a runner. The only payoff I've gotten is that when I remember to wear my heart rate monitor I can see how many calories I've burned during my half hour of agony; and as I'm dying the entire time with my heart ready to leap out of my chest, it's a lot. I'm serious, where is my freakin' runners high? I mean how long, how far and how fast do I have to run to get it? I really admire those people who say cheerfully, I run 5 miles a day. I don't know if I'll ever be one of those people. I'm up to running just under 2 miles and I have to psychic myself up days in advance of my proposed run. It's really pathetic. So, I ask if you've seen my runner's high, that you send it my way. Fast!

Checking in with myself

I'm going to put it all out there to give myself a swift kick in the ass! My birthday is just under a month away and I had really wanted to be at the goal weight I had set for myself or at least close...as of today I have 33lbs to go. So, I have to be honest and admit that I haven't been as faithful as I should be. I've had some stress as of late and I've dealt with it by falling into old patterns of behavior. I haven't been doing my online food journal, instead I've been relying on my mental journal. Not good, as I know I end up eating more than I should. So, tomorrow it's back to basics. Water, journaling and no grazing! I'm going to have to up my workouts too since as I've become more conditioned I'm not getting the calorie burn I used to. Part of my membership allows for 2 hours of childcare and I'm going to use that. I'm going to take my classes as usual and then go upstairs and either walk/run on the track, treadmill or do the elliptical machine. Perhaps for Christmas I will ask dh for some sessions with a personal trainer. In the meantime, I know I can do better and I will. I've worked too hard to fail now by falling into old habits. I can do this! I will do this!
I'm suppose to be training for a 5K in December so I will ask dh to load up the mp3 player for me and get moving...run, baby run!

Gym Rat

Well, who knew I'd love it so much. It's early in, but I'm finding it amazing that I can do it. I'm amazed that my body, which I ignored and neglected for years is responding to the attention and wants to push on. I look forward to going to class each day and love checking out the schedule to see what class to take next. My branch of the Y is new and probably doesn't have as many classes yet, but there seems to be something every day that I'm interested in checking out and that keeps it interesting. It helps that the kids seem to like going and it gets them out of the house for an hour or so. I like that I'm doing something just for me that promotes my sense of health and well being. I feel good and proud of myself! You go girl!

Bummer...they all fall down

So last week everyone in my home was ill. Kids home from school, dh home from work, you know the whole "we're sick" scenario. Well I thought I had avoided it. Then Sunday at work my throat became very itchy. Now I have post nasal drainage, a head ache and feel overall achy. Yep, you guessed it...they got me! I'm sick too. There goes all my plans for sewing, house cleaning, cooking and generally being Suzy Homemaker. Suzy is sick! She's going to bed!

Just call me Mary

Frickin' Typhoid Mary that is. For the second time in a month I have strep! What grown person gets strep throat...jeez! I knew my throat hurt like heck, but I thought it was something viral. Well, I hope I get rid of it for good this time. I have a ton of stuff to do this month and I can't be sick! I'm so far behind on all my sewing. I really need to hop on the kids Christmas outfits and get some pictures. I'd like to be able to do them around Thanksgiving and get them out early. (Yeah! Right! )
Oh...cleaned up the FW 221. It wasn't very dirty at all. Someone really loved it and cared for it and now I get to love it and take care of it! Yay for me! I love sewing machines, they're so cool.
